How to get to Florensac: car, train, plane

Florensac is a village in the Hérault department, between Agde and Pézenas, ten minutes from the sea. Easy to find, well connected, and once you’re here, everything is walkable. Here’s how to get here depending on where you’re coming from.

By car

The simplest option by far, and the most practical once you’re here.

From the north (Paris, Lyon, Clermont-Ferrand)

Take the A75 motorway, which is toll-free the entire way. That’s one of the perks of the Languedoc. Exit at Pézenas (exit 60), then follow the D13 towards Florensac. It’s 8 km after the exit, a ten-minute drive through the vineyards.

From Paris, it’s roughly 7.5 hours of driving. From Lyon, 3.5 hours. From Clermont-Ferrand, 3 hours.

From the east (Marseille, Aix, Nîmes)

Take the A9 towards Montpellier, then continue on the A9 to the Agde exit (exit 34). From there, follow the D13E4 to Florensac. Fifteen minutes after the motorway exit, you’re here.

From Marseille: about 2.5 hours. From Nîmes: 1.5 hours.

From the west (Toulouse, Carcassonne)

The A9 (becoming A61 then A9 again) via Narbonne and Béziers. Exit at Agde or Pézenas depending on your GPS. From Toulouse: roughly 2.5 hours.

From Spain (Barcelona, Perpignan)

The A9, exit Agde. From Perpignan: 1.5 hours. From Barcelona: about 3.5 hours including tolls.

Parking in Florensac

No stress finding a spot. The village has several free car parks, especially around boulevard Victor Hugo and Place de la République. At our place, there’s a free private car park for guests.

By train

Florensac doesn’t have a train station, but Agde station is 10 km away. It’s well served by regional TER trains and some Intercités services.

Useful stations

Agde (10 km, 12 min drive): the closest station. Several TER trains per day from Montpellier (35 min), Béziers (15 min), Narbonne (40 min) and Sète (20 min). A few direct Intercités from Paris-Gare de Lyon, though schedules vary by season.

Montpellier-Saint-Roch (55 km): the main TGV station in the region. Paris to Montpellier by TGV takes 3 hours 20 minutes. From Montpellier, a regional train gets you to Agde in 35 minutes.

Béziers (25 km): a good alternative if you’re coming from Toulouse or Bordeaux by Intercité.

From Agde station to Florensac

No convenient direct bus. The simplest solution: we come and pick you up. Let us know your arrival time and we’ll sort it out. Otherwise, a taxi from Agde station costs between 20 and 25 euros.

If you’d rather rent a car, there are agencies at Agde station and in Montpellier.

By plane

Two airports are nearby. Neither is a major hub, but they do the job.

Béziers-Cap d’Agde airport (25 km)

The closest one. Low-cost flights (mainly Ryanair) from several European cities: London-Stansted, Brussels-Charleroi, Düsseldorf-Weeze, Stockholm, Edinburgh depending on the season. No domestic flights.

The airport is small. You’re out in ten minutes. A rental car on site is recommended, as public transport isn’t really sufficient for exploring the area.

Montpellier-Méditerranée airport (60 km)

Bigger, more destinations. Flights to Paris-Orly (1h15, several daily with Air France or Transavia), London, Amsterdam, Brussels, and seasonal destinations. The airport shuttle connects to Montpellier station, and from there a regional train to Agde.

Total time from Montpellier airport to Florensac: about 1h15 by car, or 1.5 to 2 hours by public transport.

What about other airports?

Toulouse-Blagnac (250 km, 2.5 hours by road): lots of international flights, but it’s further away. Can be worth it if the ticket is significantly cheaper.

Marseille-Provence (230 km, 2.5 hours by road): same logic. Big airport, but factor in the drive.

Do you need a car once you’re here?

For the village itself, no. Everything is walkable: bakery, market, restaurants, and our house on boulevard Victor Hugo.

For exploring the region, yes. Public transport exists (Hérault Transport network), but buses are infrequent and don’t go everywhere. A car gives you the freedom to hit the beach in the morning, visit Pézenas in the afternoon, and have dinner in Sète.

If you’re coming by train, consider renting a car. Rates are reasonable outside July-August.
